Rita Perlingeiro, PhD publishes new article in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences about disphragm muscle repair.

The International Journal of Molecular Sciences has published an original research paper by Rita Perlingeiro, PhD entitled “Enhanced Diaphragm Muscle Function upon Satellite Cell Transplantation in Dystrophic Mice.”  In the paper, Dr. Perlingeiro outlines the potential for promoting muscle regeneration in a mostly-ignored but essential muscle: the diaphragm. The diaphragm muscle, essential for breathing is affected by many disorders, including muscular dystrophy. Dr. Perlingeiro shows that transplantation of as few as 5000 satellite cells directly into the diaphragm results in consistent and robust myofiber engraftment in dystrophin- and fukutin-related protein-mutant dystrophic mice.
