Department of Otolaryngology makes history with new cochlear implant milestone
Tina Huang, MD, and Benjamin Ostrander, MD, recently made history by successfully implanting a MED-EL FLEX34 cochlear implant device, becoming the first to use this novel advanced cochlear implant electrode at MHealth. The MED-EL FLEX34 is the longest electrode array on the market for cochlear implants and is designed specifically for individuals with larger cochleae. Only MED-EL offers soft, flexible electrode arrays up to 34 mm in length to provide up to two full turns (720°) of cochlear coverage, reaching the apical region. Their achievement highlights both their surgical expertise and our Department's ongoing commitment to advancing care with the latest hearing technology.
