The Medical Student Summer Research Program is committed to excellence, which is why we support and encourage our Mescher Scholars to achieve the highest levels of academic research accomplishment.

In that spirit, we are pleased to recognize 2016 Mescher Scholar Lauren Ward for her outstanding achievements. Lauren presented her summer research project, “Analysis of the intracellular niche of a phagosomal pathogen in the context of Salmonella enterica infection in mice,” at the Minnesota Chapter ACP Meeting, where she won the Medical Student Research/Quality Improvement award.

She subsequently represented Minnesota at the National ACP Meeting in San Diego, California (March 31–April 1, 2017), where she placed as the sole finalist from Minnesota.
