Services and Cores

These shared resources are available to other researchers both within and outside the University of Minnesota community.

They provide a stable, cost-effective, and technologically relevant means of supporting the Center for Immunology's mission to coordinate and promote efforts in immunology research, education, and clinical applications.

RS 2000 X-Ray Irradiator

The RS 2000 is the non-isotope alternative to radioactive source equipment for research irradiation applications. This system is powerful and flexible enough to assist with biological studies in cancer, bio-technology and selected institutional work including:

  • Human Genome
  • Myeloablation
  • Stem Cell Research
  • Small animal work
  • Feeder cell production

The RS 2000 has user-variable dose rates up to 6 Gy per minute whereas a gamma irradiator's dose rate is dependent on the isotope used and the remaining curies encapsulated. Rad Source has developed the expertise to produce a dose equivalency to gamma irradiators.

The RS 2000 allows for one cycle irradiation of animals in a standard filtered Allentown Cage, which is provided with the equipment and provides 95% horizontal dose uniformity within the rearing cage using our patented reflective holder

See radsource.com for more information about this product.

The University Imaging Centers (UIC)

The University Imaging Centers cover over 11,000 square feet of resources in three primary sites on the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities campuses. Snyder Hall on the St. Paul campus, Jackson Hall on the Minneapolis East Bank campus, and the Cancer and Cardiovascular Research Building located in the Biomedical Discovery District on the East Bank campus. The network of facilities offers instrumentation and support for light and electron microscopy, multiplex ion beam imaging, tissue clearing, in-vivo imaging from subcellular to whole animals. UIC Staff are available to assist in experimental design, probe and labeling selection, sample handling, tissue clearing, as well as image analysis & visualization, slide scanning, large format poster and 3D printing.

In addition to training users to independently operate our instrumentation the University Imaging Centers also offers several end-to-end research and full sample preparation services.

Bio-Medical Library

The Bio-Medical Library is the primary health information resource for the students, staff, and faculty of the Academic Health Center.
