The Midwest Regional Postdoctoral Training Grant in Eating Disorders Research is an NIMH-funded T32 training program that was started in 2009. This training program provides multidisciplinary research training to doctoral degree graduates (MD, PhD) planning academic research careers in the field of eating disorders.

Each T32 Post-doctoral Fellow is engaged in several active research projects, including collaborative and independent research. The program is organized around a series of individualized experiences for each trainee including mentoring and course work. Several in-person multisite meetings are held each year. In addition, video-based technology is integrated into our T32 program to facilitate cross-site communication and collaboration. Educational opportunities include weekly didactic and journal club/research seminars as well as cross-site mentoring in statistics and grant-writing.

The Midwest Regional Post-Doctoral Training Program in Eating Disorders Research is currently inviting applications for postdoctoral fellowships to begin in summer/fall 2027. This NIMH-funded (T32 MH082761) postdoctoral fellowship is located at three sites: University of Chicago (Chicago, IL), University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN), and the Center for Biobehavioral Research (Sanford Research; Fargo, ND). We anticipate having one training spot open in 2027 at the Center for Biobehavioral Research (Sanford Research) site in Fargo, North Dakota. This multisite program provides a unique opportunity for postdoctoral fellows to receive mentorship from scientists with a broad range of interests relevant to eating disorders research (e.g., computational neuroscience, neurobiology, clinical trials/treatment outcome, ecological momentary assessment, longitudinal data analyses, social determinants of health, digital tools, epidemiology, prevention). Although postdoctoral fellows work closely with the faculty at their site, they also receive mentorship and training from faculty across all three sites. Individuals with any type of doctoral degree (e.g., MD, PhD) from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Applicants are requested to submit the following materials by email ([email protected]) to the Dr. Lauren Schaefer (Site Director at the Fargo location):

  • A letter of intent that includes a statement of interests
  • CV
  • Reprints of three scientific publications
  • Three letters of reference

The application deadline is November 30, 2026, but applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis.
