We are pleased to announce that Robert Bulander Jr., MD, PhD, has accepted the appointment of Interim Chief in the Division of Acute Care and Critical Care Surgery.

For the past six years, Dr. Bulander Jr. has served as an assistant professor within the division, including positions as Program Director of the Department's Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. He is also a member of the M Physicians Risk and Compliance Committee. He holds memberships on the Mortality Review Committee, the UMMC Committee on Clinical Case Review, and the Medical School Admissions Committee. He is also an instructor for the Fundamentals of Clinical Thinking course at the Medical School.

To continue building on the Medical School's success in education, Jeffrey Chipman, MD, will devote his time and focus going forward on his position as Interim Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education. For decades, Dr. Chipman served the Department of Surgery in many capacities starting as a Surgical Critical Care Fellow, faculty, and ultimately to his leadership as the Division Chief of Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery. He will continue in his role as Executive Vice Chair.

"Dr. Bulander will lead the Division with the same calm, thoughtful demeanor he has demonstrated throughout his career," said Dr. Chipman. "He will undoubtedly be successful."
