Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Umar Choudry, MD, Associate Professor & Chief, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
The mission of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is to provide excellent clinical care in all aspects of the specialty and to use this clinical base to provide an excellent and well-balanced educational experience for trainees at all levels.
We are particularly dedicated to educating the next generation of Plastic Surgeons to become exceptional clinicians, clear and insightful scientific thinkers, and generous citizens with unimpeachable ethical qualities and a dedication to service.
Prior to 1976, there were no full-time plastic surgically trained attending physicians at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Bruce Cunningham became Chief of the Division in 1984 and began plans to establish a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Minnesota.
In 1991, provisional status was granted by the Residency Review Committee and the first resident in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Minnesota was accepted. Upon first review in 1993, the residency was granted full approval by the Committee.
Through our Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Integrated Residency, we provide unparalleled mentoring from a diverse faculty who have a genuine interest in surgical education and the dynamic field of plastic surgery.
