Dr.  Busuttil is Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Surgery, William P. Longmire, Jr. Chair in Surgery, Chief, Division Liver and Pancreas Transplantation, Executive Chairman, UCLA Department of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. An academic surgeon, Dr. Busuttil has demonstrated a life-long commitment to the pursuit of excellence in research, patient care and education. His fellowship program in liver transplantation is among the foremost in the world, having trained more than 82 transplant surgeons, many of whom lead programs in the US and abroad. His outstanding accomplishments in surgery and transplant have been recognized through awards and honors.


This lecture honors the work and life of Dr. John Najarian (1927-2020) and was established to highlight key areas of advancements in transplantation. Dr. Najarian served as the Department Chair of Surgery at the University of Minnesota from 1967-1993 and is remembered as being one of the greatest innovators in immunological science and surgery.
