Assistant Professor of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery Madhuri Rao, MD, FACS, is driven to provide patients with the best care in treating those with diseases of the chest.

To do this, she is working to advance the field of thoracic surgery through continuous learning and research with the attention needed to produce the unrivaled care that we demand for our loved ones.

Supporting her call to action, the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF) awarded Dr. Rao the 2023 Carolyn E. Reed Traveling Fellowship Award, which recognizes a female cardiothoracic surgeon in the field to travel to another institution to learn a new skill or technology.

"It is a great honor for me, and I am looking forward to making the best use of this opportunity,” said Dr. Rao. "These valuable experiences will strengthen my skills and add to the growth of our Thoracic and Foregut Division as well.”

Dr. Rao's project, entitled "Robotic Complex Segementectomy,” will look at the use of robotic lung segmentectomy for early-stage lung cancer, which has been increasing most recently in the field and is known as a technically challenging procedure.

Congratulations, Dr. Rao!
