The Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Division is pleased to announce Satoshi Miyairi, MD, PhD, as an assistant professor.

The Department of Surgery is excited to welcome Satoshi Miyairi, MD, PhD, as an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.

Dr. Miyairi's expertise lies in congenital cardiac surgery, from neonate to Adult Congenital Heart Disease, focusing on transplant Immunology and Surgical Therapy of Heart Failure. His clinical interests are Heart transplant, Mechanical Circulatory Support, TOF/PA/MAPCAs, and early primary repair of neonatal heart defects.

He received his Doctor of Medicine license in 2008 and his Doctor of Philosophy license in 2017, both in Japan. Dr. Miyairi then spent his fellowship at the Children's National Medical Center with the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in Washington, DC.

He joins us from the Stanford University School of Medicine, where, following his fellowship, he was a clinical instructor with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery in California.

"I did my fellowship in Washington DC, under Drs. Sinha and Peer, and I am thrilled to join their team again,” said Dr. Miyairi. "I am impressed by the support from this clinical team, and not only that but also the research support from the Department of Surgery and the University of Minnesota, which is amazing. I am looking forward to working here as a new surgeon.”


"Dr. Miyairi belongs to the rare breed of surgeon-scientists,” said Division Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Dr. Pranava Sinha. ”With an MD PhD, he has a strong clinical background and an equally strong basic science background in Transplant immunology. This is important for advancing our field with bench-to-bedside translational research. His addition to our team is an important step towards establishing our program as a center of excellence both clinically and academically."
