The Department of Surgery welcomes three new faculty members to the Divisions of Surgical Oncology, Colon & Rectal and Transplantation Surgery.

We continue celebrating our growth as each new face brings expertise to our divisions as accomplished surgeons and researchers in their respective fields.

The Division of Surgical Oncology has appointed David Brauer, MD, MPHS, as an assistant professor to the team. Dr. Brauer was born in Minneapolis and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Iowa, completed his residency at Washington University in St. Louis, and recently graduated from a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. His clinical focus will be on HPB surgery, including minimally invasive procedures. His research interests are in healthcare utilization, particularly cost, quality, and access to care.

Karthik Ramanathan, MD, has been tapped as the new assistant professor in the Division of Transplantation. Dr. Ramanathan earned his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School- Dallas and has broad experience in improving patient outcomes after organ transplantation. He is particularly interested in training medical students and residents on patient illness approaches to finding the best possible outcome.

Paolo Goffredo, MD, is the new assistant professor in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Goffredo is driven to provide state-of-the-art care for all patients with diseases of the colon and rectum. He is a familiar face to the Department as he completed his Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship with the University of Minnesota Medical School before seeking additional training in colorectal oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. Dr. Goffredo is a health services and outcomes researcher, focusing his endeavors on colorectal cancer.
