ELAM and ELH Programs

The Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program has been specially developed for senior faculty at the associate or full professor level who demonstrate the greatest potential for assuming executive leadership positions at academic health centers within the next five years. Based on the fellowship model of ELAM, the Executive Leadership in Healthcare (ELH) program is a year-long, part-time fellowship intended for individuals in mid-career to senior-level leadership positions in U.S. and Canadian health systems that will enable leaders to bring their full potential to health care organizations. The ELAM and ELH cohorts will be open to all qualified applicants, regardless of gender.

The Medical School will sponsor individuals in mid-career to senior-level leadership positions for each of the respective ELAM & ELH programs. If you wish to be considered for sponsorship, eligible faculty members should schedule a 30-minute meeting with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs to discuss the application process and planned project. After meeting with the Associate Dean, applicants for the 2026-2027 cohorts should submit the following materials to [email protected] for consideration by September 20, 2025:

  1. Curriculum vitae
  2. Letter of intent (addressed to "UMN ELAM/ELH Selection Committee", detailing qualifications, reason for applying, and proposed institutional action plan)
  3. Letter of support from their department/division head or direct supervisor for consideration (same letter can be submitted to ELAM/ELH)

Full application details are available on the above websites. NOTE: Do not complete the program applications until Medical School sponsorship decisions have been made.
