Minneapolis VA Health Care System
The University of Minnesota Medical School and the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) enjoy a unique relationship. They are invested in a long-standing partnership that supports the educational, research and clinical missions of each institution. As the health care landscape changes and evolves, the growth of the relationship between MVAHCS and the Medical School takes on added importance.
The institutions' leaders share a strong commitment to continue developing and growing this partnership. In 2018, the Medical School dean and MVAHCS chief of staff appointed a visioning task force to strengthen this vital relationship. They charged the task force with creating and modeling a highly collaborative, transparent, respectful and egalitarian culture focused on enhancing both institutions' clinical, educational and research missions.

Hiring & Appointments
The University of Minnesota encourages collaboration between the Medical School and MVAHCS through faculty appointments in clinical care, research and medical education. MVAHCS clinicians are eligible for appointments that are both paid and unpaid by the University, which has a variety of mechanisms for granting such appointments.
