The University of Minnesota Twin Cities is proud to be an institutional member of the NCFDD, a nationally recognized center dedicated to helping faculty, post-docs, and graduate students make successful transitions throughout their academic careers by providing professional development, training, and mentoring. Twin Cities Medical School faculty members can sign up to become a member to receive institutional resources at no cost.

Membership includes access to:

  • Monthly core curriculum, guest expert webinars, and multi-week courses

  • Audio and video recordings, slides and transcripts from all webinars
  • Moderated monthly writing challenges and monthly mentor matches

  • Online accountability and tracking software to alumni of the Faculty Success Program
  • Private discussion forum for peer-mentoring and problem solving

Faculty Success Program

Faculty Success Program

Several faculty members from the Medical School have now participated in the FSP. The Faculty Success Program (FSP) is the NCFDD's intensive virtual boot camp designed for faculty who are looking to increase research and writing productivity while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. This 12-week program offers intensive coaching, weekly small group sessions, time tracking tools, master coach sessions, and peer support.

As a Faculty Success Program participant, you will learn how to:

  • Set achievable personal and professional goals that align with your institution’s priorities and your own values.
  • Create a realistic and concrete plan to meet your goals.
  • Establish and maintain a healthy and sustainable daily writing habit.
  • Develop a publication portfolio that will exceed your institution's criteria for promotion.
  • Better manage your time spent on teaching, service, research, and writing so that it aligns with your goals.
  • Identify obstacles that are holding you back and strategies to move through them.
  • Prioritize your physical and emotional health.

The Faculty Success Program is offered during the fall, spring, and summer and does incur an additional cost. Faculty members can pay for this program on their own, seek departmental and/or collegiate support, or apply for support from Faculty & Academic Affairs in partnership with their college. If you know of a faculty member who might be interested in participating in the program, Faculty & Academic Affairs will pay half of the tuition (currently, the fee is $4,250 per person, but it is subject to change) for a limited number of faculty who submit an application by the deadline. The Office of Faculty Affairs will fund the other half of the cost. Interested faculty online need to apply through the Faculty & Academic Affairs and our office will work to cover funding for those who are accepted into the program.

NCFDD Post-Tenure Pathfinders Program

NCFDD's Post-Tenure Pathfinders Program is a 12-week, virtual program for tenured (or soon to be tenured) FSP alumni who are ready to reflect and move forward in their next chapter of their career. The program was designed to provide a space for a group of tenured faculty to pause, engage in a discovery process about what’s possible in their next chapter, and build the support network necessary to move powerfully in that new direction. As a post-tenure pathfinders participant, you will:

  • Reconnect with who you are and what you love
  • Explore your potential post-tenure possibilities
  • Make the identity transition from "junior" to "senior" faculty
  • Decide who you will become as a person with power on your campus
  • Release mindsets that were effective pre-tenure but no longer serve you
  • Pick a post-tenure pathway
  • Construct a new mentoring network for your path
  • Have 1-on-1 Coaching from an NCFDD-certified Master Coach

While OFA does not provide matching support for this program, we encourage you to consider supporting faculty who would especially benefit from it.
