The Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Elissa Butler, MD, MPH, as a new Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgeon.

The Department of Surgery welcomes Elissa Butler, MD, MPH, as a new Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgeon.

Dr. Butler completed her medical degree at the University of Minnesota and her General Surgery Residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. During her residency, she pursued a two-year research fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she focused on optimizing pediatric trauma care. Dr. Butler further specialized by completing her Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at Sainte Justine Hospital at the University of Montreal, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Dr. Butler’s clinical interests include neonatal and pediatric general and thoracic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, pediatric trauma care, and pediatric surgical oncology. Her research focuses on global surgery, surgical education in resource-limited settings, and enhancing pediatric trauma care outcomes.

"I am excited to be returning to the University of Minnesota as a faculty member in pediatric surgery. I look forward to caring for patients and their families, contributing to the education of students and residents, and collaborating on new research projects,” said Dr. Butler.
