Selection process
Best Doctors, Inc. assembles the Best Doctors in America list by confidentially polling the over 45,000 physicians currently on the list to answer the question, “If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, to whom would you refer?” Best Doctors, Inc. evaluates the results, and verifies all additional information to meet detailed inclusion criteria. Only currently selected Best Doctors physicians are allowed to vote. The peer review process requires that every listed Best Doctor is re-evaluated during each annual poll. Gallup® has audited and certified Best Doctors, Inc.’s database of physicians, and its companion Best Doctors in America® List, as using the highest industry standards survey methodology and processes.

Best Doctors has earned a worldwide reputation for reliable, impartial results by remaining totally independent. Doctors cannot pay to be included in the Best Doctors database, nor are they paid to provide their input. The List is a product of validated peer review, in which doctors who excel in their specialties are selected by their peers in the profession. In addition, all doctors are evaluated on clinical activity. Best Doctors must be accessible to current and/or new patients in order to qualify for inclusion.

A physician must be nominated by a Best Doctor to be considered for inclusion and must then go through the evaluation process. In each poll, currently listed Best Doctors confidentially evaluate other Best Doctors and nominees within their own and related specialties. Best Doctors has developed proprietary software that analyzes the data and provides an aggregate score for each physician. This yields a preliminary set of doctors who meet the initial criteria, and are then checked for credentials, disciplinary actions and clinical activity. Only doctors who meet all evaluation criteria are selected for the list.
