The Division of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Midwifery & Family Planning takes an innovative and multidisciplinary approach to women's and gender non-conforming persons’ health. We offer complete gynecologic care for women and gender non-conforming people of all ages from adolescence through the senior years. We are committed to promoting and ensuring reproductive health and rights. We support a healthy provider-patient relationship wherein patients are well informed of disease processes, options for interventions, and actively engaged in the decision-making process for treatment and preventive care. Simply put, we combine science-based medicine and alternative options in a holistic setting to achieve better health outcomes and help women meet personal health goals. Our skilled and dedicated team of healthcare providers is committed to providing compassionate, respectful and non-judgemental care to women and other gendered people of all ages, while being fully committed to training the next generation of physicians, certified-nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners.

Reproductive Health

We provide full spectrum care including contraception, abortion, and pre and post natal cares. We provide abortion in complicated medical settings including maternal medical conditions, fetal anomalies, and obstetric complications. We care for gender non-confirming persons providing hysterectomy and ovarian removal. We provide surgical sterilization for women and people with uteri and fallopian tubes. We are passionate about these aspects of our work and are committed to keeping these practices accessible, safe, and legal.

Education

Education

The Division of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Midwifery, and Family Planning is responsible for training University of Minnesota OB-GYN residents, medical students for their ObGyn clerkship, Internal Medicine residents, Family Medicine residents, DNP and CNM students, and other trainees learning obstetrics and gynecology.  Our Ryan Residency Training Program provides clinical training in comprehensive women's reproductive health care and residents are exposed to high patient volumes at two community clinics serviced by our faculty. Certified Nurse-Midwives and advanced practice nurses are also part of the academic mission and actively teach Ob/Gyn residents, medical students and nurse practitioner students. The primary focus in this division is to provide a strong nucleus for resident education in general obstetrics and gynecology and primary women's health care.

Research

Research

The Ob/Gyn Generalists division is invested in basic and clinical research efforts that benefit patients through improved patient care processes and health care outcomes. We actively lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives that look at systematic ways of improving the quality, efficiency, and safety for women and other people receiving care in our clinic and hospital.
