Adjunct Faculty - Teaching Opportunities

Adjunct Faculty make significant contributions and volunteer their time and expertise in educating and training our residents and medical students. We thank our physician leaders for their dedication in establishing safe, supportive learning environments for our trainees to learn and practice the art and science of medicine. If you are a community physician who is passionate about teaching, we invite you to learn more about Adjunct Faculty opportunities.

Opportunities for Teaching Medical Students

Rural Physician Associate Program (RPAP)

Eight visits between January and April (sites are determined in early fall – statewide). You work with the rural site physician and students to evaluate their rural physician placement.
For more information on this program visit the Rural Physician Associate Program website.

Problem Based Learning (PBL)

Eight faculty need to facilitate PBL groups with 4-6 medical students assigned to UMMC-Fairview. You will discuss cases and meet with them 2 times during the 4-week rotation. A facilitator will select the time and place. PBL is conducted at all the medical student sites. Learn more about our training sites

Breast & Pelvic Teaching Clinics

Sessions for Breast & Pelvic Workshops are held in May of the academic year. Faculty are needed to help teach the pelvic examination to students (including pap smear and recto-vaginal exam) during a tabletop session as preparation for the student’s work with patient educators and in their clinical rotations. There are 6 sessions, normally held on Wednesday morning for approximately 2 hours each. We need 3 or 4 faculty members to demonstrate and instruct groups of 8 students as they practice on models.

Site Preceptors for Clerkship Course

Faculty train and teach 3rd and 4th-year medical students in the required 4-week clerkship course 7500.
Clerkship courses are offered 12 times a year starting in May. Students assist and observe in clinical and OR opportunities while working closely with faculty members.
