Renxi Li, MD

Medical School: The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences

I grew up in China before coming to the United States for school, and later completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I attended medical school at The George Washington University, where I developed a strong interest in vascular surgery through clinical experiences, mentorship, and outcomes research. I was drawn to the University of Minnesota for its exceptional operative training, broad exposure to all aspects of vascular disease, and genuinely supportive culture. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy nature and spending time with my cat.

Michelle Kahng, MD

Medical School: University of Minnesota Medical School

I grew up in New Zealand and South Korea before moving to the U.S. for college. I attended medical school at the University of Minnesota, where I was first introduced to vascular surgery. I not only loved the breadth of cases we performed, but also the relationships I developed with the residents, faculty, and the overall vascular surgery team. I feel that everyone in this program is deeply committed to fostering knowledgeable and compassionate vascular surgeons - I am very excited to continue my training here! Outside of medicine, I enjoy swimming and anything cat-related!

Rachel Andrie, MD

Medical School: University of Wisconsin-Madison SMPH 

I grew up in Columbus, Indiana, although my family had ties to the Madison, WI region. I attended UW-Madison for undergraduate and medical school. My dad's family is from northwest Minnesota and so we had been visiting ever since I could remember--in fact, my first plane ride ever was to visit them. When I began looking at residency programs, the University of Minnesota rose to the top because of its talented faculty, enthusiastic residents, and excellent location in Minneapolis as both a great place to train and live, in addition to the perk of its proximity to my extended family. This program immediately impressed me with its varied and complex procedures, amiable culture, and commitment to surgical pioneering. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy rock climbing, skiing, reading, and playing fetch with my black lab mix. 

John French, MD

Medical School: University of Missouri School of Medicine

I am originally from California, but grew up most of my life in Idaho. I graduated from the University of Missouri for medical school prior to beginning residency at the University of Minnesota. Living in the Twin Cities prior to medical school, I knew it was a place that I would want to return to for training. It is a great place to work and live. There was no doubt in my mind, given the renowned history of the University of Minnesota, that I would be receiving world-class training. The work atmosphere is collegial and there is an aurora that the faculty are heavily invested in our training.  I feel confident that when I graduate, I will feel prepared and confident going into practice.

Zach German, MD

Medical School: Wake Forest School of Medicine

I'm originally from Berlin, New Jersey. I love to run outside, play tennis with friends, and watch sports. I knew that residency here at the University of Minnesota would be the perfect place to train because of the broad case volume - from complex open and endovascular aortic work to bread-and-butter vascular procedures. Our trainees genuinely enjoy spending time together inside and outside of the hospital, and our faculty are extremely supportive of our education and wellness. I know that when I leave training, I will be prepared for whatever career path I choose.
