Improving Breast Cancer Outcomes World Wide

The primary objective of the University of Minnesota Global Breast Cancer Fellowship is to train breast cancer experts in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Breast cancer is the most common cancer worldwide and the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. This disparity is not inevitable - it is reversible through education, training, and access to emerging therapies.

We are recruiting physicians from LMICs who are interested in improving breast cancer outcomes in their home countries. This is the only breast fellowship in the United States that is dedicated to training physicians in LMICs.

Fellows receive hands-on training to address the multidisciplinary treatment of breast cancer, which includes breast cancer surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, breast imaging, plastic reconstruction, physical therapy and genetic counseling. Fellows will also work to design a robust academic research project focused on changing the landscape of breast cancer in their country.

Upon completion, fellows will return home to implement their project with ongoing assistance from U of M faculty. Fellows will have access to long-term career mentorship as they become leaders in the complex specialty of breast cancer care.
