Dr. Amy Thorsen completed her Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota in 2002. Since then, she has been an integral part of the education program of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery as an Adjunct faculty member. In 2024, Dr. Thorsen joined the faculty of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery full-time as an Associate Professor.
Dr. Thorsen served as the Director of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery’s annual Endorectal Ultrasound Course from 2005-2012 and as Course Director for the Advanced Pelvic Imaging for the Colon and Rectal Surgeon Course from 2013-2014. She has been invited to speak on the management of pelvic floor disease at both national and international meetings.

Dr. Thorsen has a long-standing interest in pelvic floor anatomy, evaluation, and treatment. She was Medical Director of the Pelvic Floor Center in Minneapolis, MN from 2013-2020. She has served on the Steering Committee on Pelvic Floor Disorders of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery since 2018.
