Dr. Wong received his Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College – Thomas Jefferson University and completed his General Surgery training at the University of Rochester Medical Center. During his time in Rochester, he spent two years in the lab performing heart failure/cardiac critical care research while collaborating with the medical device industry on developing and refining instruments for minimally-invasive cardiac procedures. He subsequently went on to complete a Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota and joined the faculty upon completion of his training.
His clinical practice encompasses the full breadth of adult cardiac surgery, with a particular interest in the surgical management of patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), advanced heart failure, aortic valve disease, and in those who require complex/multi-arterial coronary artery bypass grafting. Academically, he is focused on surgical education, quality improvements in cardiac surgery critical care, and biomedical device innovation.
Dr. Wong is driven to mentor the next generation of cardiothoracic surgeons, research ways to improve the lives of patients with cardiovascular disease, and above all, provide excellent and compassionate patient care.
“I have been blessed to be allowed the opportunity help people through one of the most challenging times of their lives and I recognize the impact our team can have on our patients. Here at the University of Minnesota, we strive to treat everyone with that in mind and to ensure the care they receive is of the highest standard.”
