Across our office and collaborating centers, the University of Minnesota Medical School Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) is excited to welcome three new team members who will help us in our service to students, faculty, staff and our statewide community.

Kania Johnson, MPP, Program Manager in the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Engagement

Kania Johnson, MPP

 

Kania Johnson (She/Her) is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus, and holds a Master of Public Policy from the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She's excited about supporting medical school applicants, students and trainees with their journey to bring their gifts, lived experiences and expertise to the Medical School community and those we serve. Kania is passionate about addressing pressing social issues in our society, particularly in education, healthcare and the criminal justice system, and she is an advocate for policies and practices that put diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in action. In her free time, Kania enjoys reading, working out, cooking, watching anime and spending time with family and friends.

Megan Lhotka, Community Liaison, Center for American Indian and Minority Health (CAIMH) - White Earth Nation

Aaniin Akina Wiiya! Miinanikwe Indigoo. Hello, everyone, my name is Megan Lhotka (She/Her). I am a descendant of the White Earth Nation and my tribal heritage is of the Pembina people. My new role with the CAIMH is a remote position on the White Earth Reservation. I will be a liaison for medical students working with the Indian Health Services (IHS) here, and I will work to create a pathway for local White Earth students interested in pursuing careers in medicine.

 

Vee Vyas, Program Manager for Data Metrics in ODEI

Vee Vyas

Vee Vyas (they/them) received their Bachelor's in Political Science and Economics from Rhodes College and has worked as a data analyst and researcher in both community-based and academic institutions. Vee is passionate about working with the thriving U of M Medical school community of scholars and staff, and they are and excited to  advance our DEI initiatives through rigorous and comprehensive data analytic approaches. Outside of work, Vee spends their time enjoying coffee, exploring local bakeries and discovering new music.
