University of Minnesota Researcher Discusses Study on Youth and Family Priorities for Pediatric Lupus Research

Colleen Correll, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor with the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics recently discussed a new study investigating the research priorities of youth and their families impacted by a diagnosis of Pediatric Lupus. The researchers teamed up with the Lupus Foundation of America to survey individuals impacted by the disease to determine which types of research would be most important to them. Patients with Lupus and their families prioritized research focusing on the underlying genetic and environmental causes of the disease, improving the quality of life for patients, and the side effects of medications used by the patients. The goal of this study was to share this data with other organizations in hopes of directing funding to areas of research that are important to Lupus patients, which could, in turn, increase the amount of patient participation in these studies.
