U’s Center for Pediatric Obesity Medicine Addresses Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Obesity Research

With the constant presence of COVID-19 in today’s society, some researchers are shifting their focus towards the nation’s obesity rates. Many pre-existing conditions such as obesity have been linked to a higher chance of developing adverse symptoms from COVID-19.

Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that the pediatric obesity rate for the United States is approximately 18.5% which affects around 13.7 million children and adolescents.

Aaron Kelly, PhD, Co-Director for the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Center for Pediatric Obesity Medicine (CPOM) and professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and colleagues say we need to do better.
