Summary

Dr. Kizilbash is a pediatric nephrologist at the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. She developed an interest in outcomes associated with kidney transplantation in children during her pediatric nephrology fellowship. After completing the fellowship, she joined the University of Minnesota as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and continued her research in the area of pediatric kidney transplantation. Dr. Kizilbash’s research experience has mostly entailed the study of various predictors of patient and graft survival in pediatric kidney transplant recipients. She has also studied the impact of non-standard donors or marginal kidneys on kidney transplant outcomes in children. This has allowed her to examine strategies to expand the existing deceased donor pool for children in the current the era of a severe organ shortage. Since joining the faculty in July 2016, Dr. Kizilbash has published 9 abstracts and 6 first author peer-reviewed original manuscript that have examined various aspects of kidney transplantation in children. In 2019, she accepted the position of the medical director of pediatric kidney transplant program at the University of Minnesota. Her role as the transplant director has afforded her an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the research needs of the field of kidney transplantation in children.
