Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion
The Department of Pediatrics seeks to attain a diverse, vital environment through the recruitment, hiring, and retention of faculty, staff, and trainees who are underrepresented in medicine and underrepresented in Minnesota.
Our Commitment
The Department recognizes the need to become a more diverse organization reflecting the community in which we exist and whom we serve. Excellence is achieved when equity and diversity are infused into all aspects of scholarship and patient care. We strive for an environment and culture of inclusiveness, equal opportunity, and respect for all department members without regard for race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, apparent and non-apparent disabilities, public assistance status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
Our Goals
The overarching goal is to advocate for a culture of equity, inclusion and diversity in the Department of Pediatrics. In addition, as physician educators and researchers, we must strive to address disparities in the provision of health care and education, along with the focus of research. This work is being lead by the departmental Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council (EDIC). The work of EDIC is advised by our Trainee Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council (T-EDIC).
Leadership
Our Action Plan:
- Continuous evaluation of diversity in the department
- Educate faculty and staff
- Recruit and retain trainees and faculty from underrepresented groups
- Address healthcare disparities in our institution
- Support these initiatives throughout the department
