Move + Thrive

Our story

Exercise is for everyone: movement should feel good, support emotional and physical health, and be safe for all youth. Move + Thrive, a free online physical activity video library, is created with and for young people. Our videos focus on physical activity for self-care, not on weight, dieting, or body sculpting.

Options for every body

Young people like our videos because they feature friendly, real people with diverse body sizes, abilities, and identities; come in different video lengths; and give fun, safe options for movement. No special clothes, spaces, or equipment required! Video choices include yoga, salsa, cardio, Pilates, strength building, barre, core, HIIT, hip hop, meditation, relaxation, and warm ups and cool downs.

Supporting healthy youth development

Healthcare providers share our videos with patients because they are developmentally appropriate and free from fitness triggers that can potentially harm adolescents (e.g., body shaming, food shaming, misleading talk about weight or dieting, product promotions, or air-brushed models providing the content). Our videos purposefully respect diverse gender identities, races, ethnicities, body shapes, and sizes.

The Move + Thrive leadership team includes Dr. Sarah Kaja, Dr. Kathleen K. Miller at Children’s Minnesota, and Dr. Laura Hooper at Indiana University School of Medicine. In addition to creating high quality videos for youth, our team researches what young people want and need to enjoy physical activity.
