Circle-EBV

Overview / DescriptionThis study is following first-year university students to learn more about Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. We want to learn more about how common EBV is, how often new infections occur, and what factors may be linked to infections. The results may help us plan future EBV studies.

• Who?:
  • Ages 18–20
  • First-year college or university student
• What?: Monthly in-person study visits providing blood and saliva, surveys
• When?: 2-4 years, beginning when you consent and enroll in the study
• Where?: UMN East Delaware Clinical Research Unit or West Bank Blythe Brenden Children’s Clinical Research Center
• Why?: Circle-EBV is an observational study looking at Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) – the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis (“mono”). No treatment or vaccine is being tested.
• Compensation: Around $50 per study visit
