Dr. Matsuura was born and raised in Minnesota. He earned his PhD in the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology at the University of Minnesota and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania. His translational research interests include optimizing resuscitation techniques following cardiac arrest and investigating the role of myocardial ketone body metabolism in preventing cardiomyopathies.
Dr. Matsuura has two primary areas of research:
Resuscitation – Developing translational resuscitation approaches that improve hemodynamics, reduce reperfusion injury, and promote organ recovery following prolonged cardiac arrest and myocardial infarction
Cardiac Metabolism – Investigating how the heart adaptively and maladaptively utilizes metabolic substrates for energy and remodeling with an emphasis on ketone body metabolism in heart failure
