Dr. Mario Funes Hernandez, a nephrologist and transplant specialist, joined the University of Minnesota in July 2024. He earned his medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Honduras, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in affiliation with the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he served as Assistant Chief Resident. He subsequently completed fellowship training in nephrology and transplantation at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he was honored to serve as Chief Fellow. Dr. Funes Hernandez’s research interests focus on hypertension, with particular emphasis on secondary hypertension, primary aldosteronism, and renovascular disease.
