Schmidt-Steer Award
Applications are invited for the Schmidt-Steer Award which recognizes outstanding basic scientific research in biochemistry by a PhD candidate.
Through this award, Randolph C. Steer and his brother, Clifford J Steer, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Cell Biology at the University of Minnesota, wish to recognize Mrs. Erain B. Schmidt, an outstanding educator and humanitarian whose contributions to education in chemistry, biological sciences, and the humanities have motivated and stimulated thousands of students over the years.
Eligibility
PhD candidates enrolled at the University of Minnesota Medical School who are conducting or have recently conducted basic research are eligible to apply. The Medical School will coordinate the selection process. The Medical Education Honors and Awards Committee will select recipients. The award will be presented in the spring and consists of a $2,000 award and certificate.
Nomination Process
The nomination form and all application materials should be submitted electronically as a single PDF.

- The research paper
- A letter from the faculty sponsor outlining the role the student played in the research and the significance to the field of research
