Applicant Evaluation
Process for evaluating MSTP applicants
After an initial screening of completed applications, qualified candidates are invited to interview with the program (interview days held between October and February). Applicants meet throughout the day individually with the Director, several members of the MSTP Steering Committee and faculty preceptors working in research areas of interest to the applicant. Applicants will also have the opportunity to meet with students currently enrolled in the Program.
Interviews for the 2025 admissions cycle will be held virtually (via Zoom) on the following dates:
- October 24-25 (Thurs-Fri)
- November 18-19 (Mon-Tues)
- December 12-13 (Thurs-Fri)
- January 16-17 (Thurs-Fri)
- February 10-11 (Mon-Tues)
Following the interview, the MSTP Steering Committee meets to discuss and evaluate the applicant. The Steering Committee will vote to either accept an applicant, reject an applicant, or place an applicant on our waitlist. Applicants are notified by E-mail once a decision has been made by the MSTP Steering Committee. Accepted applicants are invited to a second look re-visit opportunity.
The University of Minnesota MSTP abides by the traffic rules for admissions developed by the American Association of Medical Colleges.
The initial review and screening of completed applications begins in mid-August and decisions regarding interviews and admissions are made on a rolling basis. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to complete their applications early.
