Activities
The MSTP is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment that fosters the success and well-being of students and faculty from all backgrounds and experiences. This commitment is a foundational requirement for excellence, generates innovative solutions, improves the quality of research and clinical care, develops leadership abilities and competitiveness, and enhances critical thinking and intellectual development. MSTP students work together with MSTP leadership and MSTP faculty on a number of initiatives focused on enhancing student success, well-being, and belonging.
Student Advisory Committee
The mission of the MSTP Student Advisory Committee (SAC) is to improve the University of Minnesota MSTP by creating and overseeing opportunities for MSTP students to enhance their scientific and medical knowledge, develop relationships beneficial to their career development, and build a sense of community within the program. The SAC helps to organize all MSTP group social activities, develop new events and experiences that will benefit all MSTP students, as well as integrate and analyze ideas about new ways to improve the program. JEDI Committee
The goal of the JEDI Committee is to foster a safe and supportive environment in the MSTP and promote the success of a greater variety of physician-scientists. This committee has advocated for reducing barriers in the application process and the involvement of students in various aspects of program governance. WISM Committee
The WISM Committee seeks to build a supportive community for women physician-scientists at all career stages while advocating for gender equity within the MSTP and larger women-in-science networks at the University of Minnesota and beyond. WISM organizes events focused on community-building through social activities and community outreach, promoting gender-inclusive success in academia, networking with role models in the field, and openly discussing potential career obstacles specific to women physician-scientists, all to drive lasting change and better equip MSTP trainees to navigate these challenges. WISM strives to promote, discuss, and center intersectionality in all events. WISM events are for anyone who wants to see their fellow physician-scientists thrive in academia regardless of gender identity. All are welcome to join WISM events, and all WISM events are designed to offer important insight, skillsets, and/or support relevant to all attendees. Specific WISM initiatives include:
