Steer-Pruitt Award

Applications are invited for the Steer-Pruitt Award which recognizes outstanding basic cardiovascular research by a PhD candidate.

Through this award, Randolph C. Steer wishes to honor the memory of Dr. Raymond D. Pruitt, who was the founding dean of Mayo Medical School and Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota and Mayo Medical School.  The award recognizes Dr. Pruitt's outstanding contributions as an educator, clinical and basic scientist, administrator, and humanitarian; and the outstanding opportunities that his vision and kindness provided to students from around the world.

Eligibility

PhD candidates enrolled at the University of Minnesota Medical School who are conducting or have recently conducted basic cardiovascular research are eligible to apply. The Medical School will coordinate the selection process. The Medical Education Honors and Awards Committee will select recipients. The award will be presented in the spring and consists of a $2,000 award and certificate.

The nomination form and all application materials should be submitted electronically as a single PDF.

  • A letter from the faculty sponsor outlining the role the student played in the research and the significance to the field of research
