Program in Transplant Infectious Disease
The Program in Transplant Infectious Diseases integrates clinical care with clinical research. Between stem cell transplantation, abdominal organ transplantation, and thoracic organ transplantation, our program supports the infectious disease consultation needs of a base of nearly 600 patients who undergo transplantation at our center each year. In addition, we provide continuity of infectious disease care for patients transplanted at any time in the past, perform pretransplant eligibility evaluations, and also see patients with compromised immune systems who otherwise have not necessarily undergone transplantation. The clinical research component of our program involves infection prevention with vaccine studies, diagnostic test evaluation, and antimicrobial medication evaluation.
