Carrie Rowell

My academic interests encompass all aspects of funeral service, with particular emphasis on funeral arrangements, consumer decision-making, embalming education, and the business practices that support ethical, family-centered care. I am especially interested in the role of customer service throughout the continuum of care—from pre-need planning through at-need services—and how compassionate, knowledgeable guidance can positively influence a family's experience during one of life's most significant transitions. 

As an educator, I enjoy teaching embalming by integrating scientific principles, technical skill, and critical thinking with the professionalism and dignity required in caring for the deceased. I strive to help students develop both the clinical competence and ethical foundation necessary to provide respectful, high-quality care while understanding the important role embalming plays in funeral service and family care. 

My teaching and scholarship also examine ethical leadership, sound business practices, and the responsibilities of funeral professionals as trusted members of their communities. I believe funeral service professionals have a unique opportunity to combine technical expertise with compassion, integrity, and education to help families make informed decisions that reflect their values, honor the lives of their loved ones, and create meaningful funeral experiences. 

Through my work, I strive to prepare future funeral service professionals to provide exceptional care, master the art and science of embalming, uphold the highest ethical standards, and strengthen public trust in the profession through service, professionalism, and lifelong learning.
