Carl McGary, PhD, MD

My current clinical interests are general surgical pathology with subspecialty interest in breast, gynecologic, and Head and Neck Pathology. FNA cytopathology and GYN cytology are also areas of expertise. I have performed FNA's (several hundred in my career) mostly of head and neck lesions. I have presented pathology monthly at the head and neck tumor board for Midwest Otolaryngology and MHOPA at the Maplewood MHOPA office. I recently supervised the HealthEast cytology lab and Histology lab as medical director, and oversaw immunohistochemistry in that role.My training in gynecologic pathology was during residency with Richard J. Zaino, M.D. who helped foster my interest in this area. I was involved in the gynecologic oncology tumor board at The University of Rochester, and had been the University of Rochester pathology representative to the Gynecologic Oncology Group pathology committee. I have also presented a workshop for head and neck fine needle aspiration cytopathology for the Upper New York State Society for Cytopathology in September 1998, and I had been providing pathology review and instruction for the otolaryngology residents at Strong Memorial Hospital. Currently at St. Joe's I review most all of the ER/PR/Her-2 stains, all the MMR stains, and see a good spectrum of general surgical pathology and cytopathology material.
