My research is concerned with a group of proteins that share a similar protein domain structure. These are the metaxin proteins, FAXC proteins, and CDR proteins. The metaxin proteins are mitochondrial membrane proteins that are involved in the process of protein import into mitochondria. The roles of FAXC proteins and CDR proteins are unknown. I also have an interest in the thrombospondin proteins, which are large proteins (~1000 amino acids or greater) and have complex protein domain structures. The thrombospondins are extracellular matrix proteins with roles in various processes including angiogenesis, tumor growth, and skeletal development.
