Catalog Description: This course provides exposure to deceased and live donor kidney, liver and pancreas transplantation. The student will participate in the pre-operative evaluation and management and post operative care (including immune monitoring), while stressing the intra-operative management (donor and recipient) of transplant patients and back-table work. The student will participate on clinical rounds; attend teaching conferences, seminars and complete an abstract in an area of interest. The student will scrub into organ donor operations as well as kidney, liver and pancreas transplants.

Required session attendance: Does not apply
Typical weekly schedule/Delivery Mode: Dependent on # of organ procurements and transplant case volumes for the given week. Mix of clinic & OR opportunities, M-F, 7:30am-5:00pm, no formal (pager based in-house patient care) night call in the traditional sense; Students are expected to organize potential night or weekend activities (morning work rounds and operations) around transplant/procurement surgeries, no more than 1-2 times per week on average. One weekend day is totally OFF.
