Dr. Stuart Amateau is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He serves as Division Director and Clinical Director of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, and as Associate Program Director for the Minimally Invasive Surgical Fellowship Program in the Department of Surgery.
Dr. Amateau specializes in gastroenterology with advanced expertise in therapeutic endoscopy. He completed his medical training at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, earning both an MD and PhD in Neuroscience and Physiology, followed by advanced endoscopy fellowship training at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute.
Nationally recognized for his clinical innovation, Dr. Amateau has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and holds a provisional patent for a novel endoscopic device. He is actively engaged in education and mentorship, having trained numerous fellows, and is a committed leader in collaborative research, health system improvement, and academic advancement.
