We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Anne Blaes, Director of Cancer Survivorship Services and Translational Research has received two significant grants to advance her vital work in cancer survivorship.

The first, a P30 grant, “Administrative Supplements for Assessing and Enhancing Survivorship Care” co-led by Dr. Blaes and Dr. Helen Parsons aims to identify risk factors for  the underutilization of survivorship care among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. The project will also  identify strategies to address barriers to survivorship care and optimize programmatic alignment with national standards.

In a second significant achievement, Dr. Blaes, along with co-investigators Dr. Schelomo Marmor and Dr. Melissa Laska, has received a U48 award titled "Understanding the Impact of Survivorship Care Plans on Health Outcomes in Cancer Survivors." This research will evaluate the effectiveness of receiving a survivorship care plan (SCP) in reducing cancer mortality using institutional data. It will also quantify the effectiveness of survivorship care visits with a care plan and its contribution to mortality in AYA patients, aged 15-39 years.

Dr. Blaes and the Cancer Survivorship Services team are also involved in the Thrive Series for cancer survivors and caregivers, which is currently in its Fall 2024 season. Thrive is a virtual series designed for cancer survivors and caregivers to learn about a variety of survivorship topics from local experts in collaboration between M Health Fairview and the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota.

Congratulations to Dr. Blaes and her team for these remarkable achievements that hold great promise for improving the lives of cancer survivors!
