Mac Baird Chair in Family Medicine Advocacy and Policy
This fund honors the distinguished career and contributions of Macaran A. Baird, MD, MS, professor and head of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School from 2002 to 2017.
Under Dr. Baird’s leadership, the Department of Family Medicine annually graduates the highest number of primary care physicians in the US, supports hospitals across the state with more than 200 physicians who treat thousands of patients, and invests resources in research to improve healthcare outcomes.
This fund is designed to ensure that the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota remains a national leader in family medicine. At $100,000, the fund will initially provide for an annual lectureship in Dr. Baird’s name.
As of 2020, the growth in funds has resulted in the creation of an endowed chair position in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health: the Mac Baird Chair for Community Engagement and Advocacy.
