Transformation of Division of General Internal Medicine Division

The Medical School has selected the Department of Medicine to lead the next phase of academics and clinical care in geriatrics and palliative care. The goal of this work will be to establish a comprehensive research program; provide training to medical students, residents, and fellows; and deliver state-of-the-art health care to older adults in Minnesota.

With the addition of geriatrics and palliative care and recognizing the tremendous growth in our hospital medicine program, the Division of General Internal Medicine has been reconfigured into two separate divisions, effective June 1, 2022. The new Division of Hospital Medicine will comprise 58 faculty whose primary specialty is hospital medicine. The new Division of Geriatrics, Palliative and Primary Care (GPPC) brings together multiple specialties and will comprise 38 faculty, including internal medicine, palliative care, health psychology, and geriatrics.
