Conducted by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), a semi-annual inspection found the Advanced Preclinical Imaging Center (APIC) within the Lillehei Heart Institute successfully met all USDA requirements to ensure safe and humane animal research. Along with receiving an elusive perfect score on the inspection, the APIC staff was commended by the committee for clean and orderly facilities.

The inspection occurred on Monday, October 30, as part of a bi-annual practice by IACUC, the committee responsible for the oversight of all labs that perform animal research at the University of Minnesota

APIC is a core translational laboratory and training facility to stimulate discovery and advancement in cardiovascular and neurological science fields. To achieve a high score, the staff created new organization systems to remove expired medications and laboratory supplies promptly. Extensive deep cleaning is also routinely completed to provide clean and orderly spaces for surgical procedures.

Kudos to the APIC staff for their commitment to providing the best care for animals and extraordinary data collection for study sponsors!
