Dr. Heather Thompson Buum, Interim Division Director of Geriatrics, Palliative and Primary Care Division, joined her colleagues in attending the annual Minnesota Chapter of the American College of Physicians Scientific meeting, where she was presented with the first national Advancing Women in Internal Medicine Award. Dr. Thompson Buum was chosen for her work in advancing women in internal medicine through her leadership which started early in her career as a chief resident and is now a core faculty the Internal Medicine Residency program. She also co-founded, and is currently Chair of the Interprofessional Minnesota Primary Care Team (IMPACT) and she starting Mid-career Women in Academic Medicine (MC-WAM). Dr. Thompson Buum is also the first General Internal Medicine division director at the University of Minnesota.
