Duluth Campus Launches New Online Open-Access Journal for Regional Medical Campuses
Duluth, MN (January 17, 2018) – The University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus is pleased to announce the launch of a new online open-access journal, The Journal of Regional Medical Campuses (JRMC), published in collaboration with the University of Minnesota Libraries. The first of its kind journal offers the medical school community a place to publish unique educational findings and research specific to regional medical campuses across the U.S. and Canada.
The Duluth Campus is one of 115 regional medical campuses in the United States and Canada that focuses on rural, American Indian and Indigenous health research, but like the majority of regional campuses, faced challenges when submitting their research to traditional journals.
“The JRMC was born out of a need to tell our stories and share our unique perspectives and challenges,” said Dr. Paula Termuhlen, Regional Duluth Campus Dean and Editor-in-Chief of the JRMC. “The JRMC is our opportunity to enhance the academic environments of our campuses by creating a home for the scholarship produced on our campuses.”
The journal aims to highlight and disseminate timely topics from regional campuses. Topics central to the work of regional campuses include administrative relationships with primary campuses, accreditation challenges, faculty development and promotion and tenure processes.
“By providing a platform for sharing best practices, we hope to improve the learning and working environment of regional medical campuses,” said Dr. Alan Johns, Associate Dean and Editor-in-Chief of JRMC. “There has never been a better time for us to start a journal that reflects the innovation and flexibility of regional campuses.”
The international open-access journal is backed by a peer-reviewed editorial board and reviewers that include faculty members and deans from regional campuses across North America.
The first issue of The Journal of Regional Campuses is now available. Visit here to learn more.
