In my current role as Senior Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School I oversee the clinical practice and administration of the University of Minnesota Medical Center’s three emergency departments; East Bank UMMC, West Bank Riverside Hospital, and Masonic Children’s Hospital. Previous to that I spent the last 15 years in many areas of HealthPartners integrated healthcare delivery system. As the Associate Medical Director of Quality for HealthPartners health plan I had the opportunity to oversee the quality of care provided to 1.8 million members, including involvement in medical policy creation,
utilization review, quality case review, provider monitoring, credentialing, population health quality metrics and accreditation of the health plan. As a practicing academic emergency physician, I have the opportunity to provide care and teach the most safe and effective ways to deliver care for medical students, residents and fellows. As the previous Medical Director of virtuwell, I had the opportunity to help lead an innovative way of delivering healthcare to the patient in the comfort of whatever setting they would like, whether it be their home, office, or anywhere on their mobile device. This combination of roles has given me insight and experience into the world of accountable care and how we might align the provider-payor-patient relationship under the guidance of the triple aim moving forward.
