Dr. Miner is the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center, and is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and is the Senior Associate Editor for Electronic Publications of Academic Emergency Medicine. .

Dr. Miner conducts research in the areas of pain management, procedural sedation, altered mental status, shock, and monitoring during critical care in the Emergency Department and has numerous publications on these topics. He has edited a textbook on pain management and sedation (Emergency Pain and Sedation, Cambridge University Press, 2008) and has authored chapters about pain management, sedation, and monitoring in several other textbooks. He also conducts research in the effects of poverty on patients seen in the Emergency Department.
