Brooke Dugdale has received the prestigious Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award presented by the American Medical Association Foundation. The AMA Foundation’s Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award recognizes physicians who "exemplify the highest values of volunteerism, community engagement, leadership and dedication to the care of underserved populations."

Dugdale is a fourth year medical student who was previously a counselor and ESL teacher at a Minneapolis high school for eight years before enrolling in the University of Minnesota Medical School. Since enrolling, Dugdale has participated in public health advocacy work, homeless health outreach, and global healthcare service in Ecuador and India. She has also presented a lecture series for medical school peers about intercultural best practices and cultural competency in medicine.
